How can I drop hints to my boyfriend that I want to at least be engaged to him?

This problem always happens when you have kids and play house before you get married. He already has all the benefits of marriage without the rings and the vows, so I guess there is really not much incentive for him. You do have a right to know where you stand. Tell him that it is important to you that you get married, and have a very serious talk about it.
