Why do the ITF spell Tae Kwon Do as " Taekwon-Do "?

Why the different way of spelling ? even the ITF website has this spelling , i always thought the correct spelling was Tae Kwon Do ? they call it Taekwon-do . Like its a different martial art or something ?
